HOMECOMING is an ongoing project about immigrants in Italy, focusing of what these people have left behind. They’ve different stories, they come from different countries (Ukraina, Russia and Bangladesh are the first countries we visited) and they have different dreams about their future. We’ve met them and interviewed them, with the aim of obtaining a visual guide for our visit in their home country. Through asking specific questions, (e.g. is there something you would like to see again, familiar places of faces?) we planned to go back to their home countries, to meet the world they left behind and take back with us the material images of rememberings that dwell in their memory, to make them visible to them in the first place, once back. People have the tendency to think there wasn’t a complex and real life before the experience of immigration, but there was one indeed, as real as the one of the “hosting” country. Moreover, they are forced to make a home of someone else’s home, while their real one is so far away. What does that mean? Making friends with them and travel back with them is somehow overwhelming.
